Day by Day
When you’re struggling with a mental illness and someone tells you to take it day by day, it can feel like a load of crap. Someone telling you that is one thing, but taking things one day at a time can feel impossible given how anxious or depressed you feel.
The bad days feel like they’re never going to end.
And the good days feel suspiciously good, like you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop.
This can be especially hard when you’re trying to find the right medication, since most of them take several weeks to work correctly. It’s a difficult battle.
A bad therapy day can leave you feeling like it’s a waste of time or like it’s not going to help you. A good therapy day feels good in the moment but can leave you feeling lonely when it’s over.
I’m saying all of this because I went through it and I know how hard it can be to push through, especially during those dark dips.
Remember this: the people who are telling you to take things day by day are coming from a good place, and they’re rooting for you to get better, one small bit at a time. Things will truly get better in time.
