What's in my pen case: favorite pens and markers

Okay.

I'm going to Paris soon. And while I'll already be in Paris when this post publishes, I am starting to mentally pack for my trip and I need to bring my Biggest Bang For My Buck pens so I can doodle to my heart's content. So I wanted to share!

I'm cheesy.

To be honest, the pens that I'm bringing to Paris aren't that different than what I normally carry around. All. The. Time. I'm always packing. Pens.

So since I'm drawing more and more, and because it's time to talk about pens, I wanted to share my favorite drawing tools du jour. (Look, more French! So classy.)

All of the Pens

I have a mix of black pens and markers, grey markers, and colored pens and pencils. And some tools!

The pens in the container behind the ones laid out on my desk are the sad, underused ones.

The Black and Grey Pens and Markers

From top to bottom:

  • Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen, Cold Grey I, Brush Tip (both for quick shading)
  • Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen, Cold Grey III, Brush Tip
  • Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen, Black, Brush Tip (great for a broad stroke)
  • Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, Black, 05 (perfect for note taking)
  • Sakura Micron Ink Pen, Black, 01 (my favorite inking pens)
  • Sakura Micron Ink Pen, Black, 05
  • Sakura Micron Ink Pen, Black, 08
  • Alvin Draft-Tec Retractable Pencil, 0.7mm (the whole point retracts into the pencil, making it perfect for travel)
  • White eraser stick

This is a great deal for a set of the Faber-Castell Brush pens including black and grey, and this is a great deal for a Micron pen pack.

The Color Pens and Markers

From top to bottom:

  • Marvy Uchida Le Pen in Lavender and Amethyst (I may end up swapping one of them, they're pretty similar)
  • Stabilo Point 88 Pen, Pink 56
  • PaperMate Flair in Felt Pen in Magenta (I use this in notes, for headers)
  • Non Photo Blue Pencil
  • 4" inking triangle
  • Eraser shield
  • My cute little "Follow Your Dreams" pewter shell

You know I love the Le Pen pack for note taking. The Stabilo honestly isn't my favorite pen, but after spending a weekend without my Microns (which resulted in pages of pink drawings), I developed a special place in my heart for it.

The non photo blue pencil is a happy rediscovery. I had a bunch of these laying around from college, and it turns out they're perfect for illustrations since they are easily removed post-processing. Plus, it's a tiny bit softer and more pleasant to sketch with than a mechanical pencil.

That's it!

What are your favorite pens for writing, doodling, drawing, etc?
